Savacol Mouthwash Instructions
Savacol Mouthwash Instructions
Take an adequate mouthful of the mouthwash to allow you to saturate the infected site(s). Hold the mouthwash in your mouth for one full minute for maximum effect. This should be done at least three times daily – preferably after meals.
Do not dilute this mouthwash as tap water will inhibit the effectiveness of the chlorhexidine. If you find the taste too unpleasant, then dilute with distilled water only. Do not use a chlorhexidine mouthwash within one hour of using any toothpaste as toothpastes deactivate the chlorhexidine.
Savacol is excellent for short term use. It allows rapid healing of most infective injuries. Long term use is not usually possible due to eventual unpleasant side effects such as temporary loss of taste and temporary staining of your teeth.
As initial healing is established it is important to make an appointment with your dentist to find a permanent measure to eliminate your infection.
An alternative product is now available which also has a 0.2% chlorhexidine but has been modified so it tastes better and is far less likely to stain your teeth. This product is called Curasept 0.2% and is available from certain pharmacies and our front desk as is Savacol.
